HCM 40

Celebrating 40 years of architecture
Brand Identity, Print
Designed at Ashton Design

Hord Coplan Macht — an integrated architecture firm, headquartered in Baltimore, with multiple offices over the country — sought a 40th-anniversary logo to help mark this major milestone. The new mark seamlessly integrates with their existing identity, all while creating a new system for a variety of applications to celebrate the landmark year.
Michael Ponton, Design
Jenny Hoffman, Creative Direction

The geometric form of the logo stems from the existing wordmark, which is set in Futura. Thanks to its innate architectural details, the simplistic “40” plays with abstraction without sacrificing legibility.
The proportions of the anniversary logo are adjusted to the existing wordmark, ensuring the parent brand remains intact.

As a bonus, further meaning is invested in the mark with each quadrant representing a decade, and each shape representing one of the three partners.
